SEAVIEW ROAD BOARD RIDERS

South Australias longest running board riding club

Seaview Road Board Riders (SRBR) was formed in 1964 at a time when there were only three other independent surfing clubs in South Australia - Fisheries Bay, Four Point and Day Street. These established clubs catered for an older age group of surfers who were probably the first wave of surfers in South Australia but the sport also appealed to an emerging younger generation. It was from this younger generation that SRBR (later to be known simply as the Roaders) emerged as a recognised surf club in the state. At about the same time other clubs formed like Southern Cross, Oceanside, Sand-n-Sea and South Bay.

Other surfers to join about that time were Brian 'Hindu' Thompson, Brad 'Speed' Spencer, David 'Nat' McBride, The Bleachos' (Phill and Glen Nesbitt), 'China' Forbes, 'Gordie' Rogers, Bruce 'Tex' Keelan, Geoff 'Parpy' Smith, Dabby Dabernig and 'Goose' Hockley and later 'Gorgo' Chandler, Greg 'noddy' Webb, Mick Higgins, Grant Forbes and George Knight.

During The Seventies lots of the early clubs disappeared and some new clubs were formed. The Roaders carried on with an injection of new surfers such as Kym “Roader Thompson, Gerry Wedd, Andy Inkster, Peter Winter, Danny Higgins, Mick Miller and Frank Shultz. During that period there was a strong rivalry between South Bay Surf Club and the Roaders. These clubs being the top performers in interclub competition during this period. Also members of these two clubs won most of the State Titles throughout the 70s.
